Office 365 Teams – How to mention someone and link to files in chat

Teams is a great collaboration tool and allows users to work together more effectively. My visit to the Microsoft Tech Summit this month in Birmingham showed me just how much Teams is at the focus of Microsoft’s Office 365 development plans and we should all be getting familiar with this new tool.

How to mention someone in chat

To mention someone in a chat and bring something to their attention in their activity feed you simply use the @ symbol. When you type @ it will show a list of all members of the team. Select the member you want to mention to mention them in the chat window.

How to link to files in the chat window

Linking to files in the chat window is a great way to make it easy for people to know what files you are talking about in a conversation.

Simply click on the paper clip icon.

Click on Browse Teams and Channels

Now you can navigate to the file you want to link to, highlight it and click Share a link.

Here I have asked a colleague what they think about a new set of sales figures. They will see this mention in their Activity feed and act accordingly.

When they click on the link to the file it will open up the document to view.

Conclusion

Teams is a great collaboration tool making it easy for teams to work together on documents.

I hope these tips prove useful!
