Mastering Screenshots: A Step-by-Step Guide for Every Device

1. Windows Computers

Method 1: Using the Print Screen Key

  1. Full Screen Capture: Press the PrtScn key. This copies the screenshot to your clipboard. You can paste it into an image editor like Paint using Ctrl + V.
  2. Active Window Capture: Press Alt + PrtScn. This captures the currently active window.
  3. Save Directly: Press Windows + PrtScn. This saves the screenshot directly to the Pictures > Screenshots folder.

Method 2: Using Snipping Tool or Snip & Sketch

  1. Snipping Tool: Search for "Snipping Tool" in the Start menu, choose the mode of snip, and save the screenshot.
  2. Snip & Sketch: Press Windows + Shift + S, select the area to capture, and find the screenshot in the clipboard.


2. Mac Computers

Whole Screen Capture

  • Press Command + Shift + 3. The screenshot will be saved to your desktop.

Selected Portion Capture

  • Press Command + Shift + 4. Drag to select the area you want to capture.

Specific Window Capture

  • Press Command + Shift + 4, then press the Spacebar. Click on the window to capture it.


3. iPhones and iPads

For Devices with a Home Button

  • Press the Home button and the Power button simultaneously. The screenshot will appear in Photos.

For Devices without a Home Button

  • Press the Volume Up button and the Power (Side) button simultaneously.


4. Android Phones and Tablets

Method 1: Button Combination

  • Most devices: Press Power and Volume Down buttons at the same time. The screenshot will appear in the Photos app or Gallery.

Method 2: Swipe Gesture (if enabled)

  • Swipe the side of your hand across the screen. Check settings for "Palm Swipe to Capture" if not enabled.

Method 3: Google Assistant

  • Activate Google Assistant and say "Take a screenshot."


5. Chromebooks

Full Screen Capture

  • Press Ctrl +Window Switcher(orF5` on some models). Screenshots are saved in the Downloads folder.

Selected Area Capture

  • Press Ctrl + Shift +Window Switcher(orF5`), then click and drag to select the area.
